Sprinting for F2 Victory

Ayumu Iwasa Sprint Race victory

(23rd March, 2023) –

First win of the season for Lucas Oil-sponsored DAMS.

The Lucas Oil-sponsored DAMS team secured its first win (10pts) in the second round of the new the FIA Formula 2 season with a Sprint Race victory for Ayumu Iwasa in Saudi Arabia. The flawless drive around an incredibly fast track through the Jeddah streets saw the Red Bull Junior racer top the podium and rise to third place in the F2 Drivers’ championship.

Team owner Charles Pic said:

“Ayumu did a great job during the Sprint Race and we’re very pleased for the victory. His start was perfect, and he managed to go from fourth to first by Lap 2, which was really impressive and then he defended really well from then on. It’s always tough to lead at this track thanks to the back-to-back DRS zones, but he controlled the race brilliantly.”

The French-based DAMs team moved up to third place in the overall Team standings, thanks to strong performances in the longer Feature race. Iwasa finished 4th (12pts) and his teammate Arthur Leclerc was 8th (5pts). A bonus point for his fastest lap, was icing on the cake.

Formula 1 weekend Sprint Race

Each F2 round supports a Formula 1 weekend with a 45 minute Sprint Race on Saturdays and a 60-minute Feature Race on Sundays. All of the F2 cars are based on a Dallara chassis, powered by Mecachrome engines. They all race on Pirelli tyres. Winning is all about set-up, strategy and driving skills.

As well as racing on Lucas Oil’s Synthetic L11 Racing Gear Oils, DAMS uses a range of products from Lucas Oil. These include Brake Cleaner, Lucas Slick Mist Interior Detailer (polish), Lucas Slick Mist Paint & Glass Gloss Finish, Lucas Metal Polish, as well as Lucas Slick Mist Tire & Trim Shine.

“The cars are performing consistently, and it’s been a great start to the season. We are looking forward to the next round in Melbourne, Australia (31 March-02 April),” said Dan Morgan, sales and operations director for Lucas Oil UK.
