Dale-
I contacted you sometime after Thanksgiving in 2002 after I had put Lucas Oil Stabilizer in my 1993 Ford Van (5.8L engine) and it quieted diwn its many knocks and rattles.
I had promised to let you know how things turned out with that motor. At that time that motor had 191,500 miles on it. It rattled and knocked so bad I was seriuosly motor shopping and discussing my rebuild options with my mechanic. I do not trade-in or sell decent vehicles; I wear them to a nub in my business.
That was 12,500 miles ago, now it;s at 204,000 and running really strong. The rattles and knocks have continously quieted down over the past eight months. The only knocks that I hear are at cold startup or after an oil change. The only rattle is a wrist pin rattle when the motor reaches a cruising equilibrium point - about 60 in drive and about 70 in overdrive. It does not rattle when coasting or pulling. The oil loss-leakage has gone from a minimum quart per 1000 miles to about a quart per 2500-3000.
I took a trip from here at the coast to Greensboro NC last week. I got 462 miles on one tank of gas, 27.3 gallons, 16.9 mpg. This thing has NEVER gotten that kind of gas mileage. It was phenomenal mileage for that thing, being a well used 3/4 ton full size fan.
I have been using various brands of 10W40 oil, having found that 20W50 is not as good on that motor. I've kept the oil changed every 2500-3000 miles. I'm sild on Lucas. Nothing around here ever runs without it now, not even the lawnmowers.
