Perfect Double for car 33

Dave Car Donington

Donington Park, England (September 12th, 2018) – In the Lucas Oil-sponsored car, he secured pole position with a time of 1:58.145, just 0.380 ahead of Ross Stoner who completed the front row. The qualifying session was red flagged after 3 laps, following an incident at the old hairpin. Miles Cook went off into the tyre wall. Once the car was moved into a safe location the session was re-started and there was just enough time to set 1 more flying lap.

Race 1:

The lights went out and they were off, both Graves and Stoner got great starts from the front row, they headed into the first corner side by side with Graves on the inside, Stoner slotted in behind Graves turning into Redgate so he could defend his position and not risk leaving the door open for the cars behind. From this point Graves had a clear track down the Craner curves and round the old hairpin, allowing him to break the tow from the chasing pack. On lap 4, Graves made a small mistake at Coppice and then had Will Davison and Ross Stoner on his bumper once again. This made it a 3-way battle for the lead. Davison went into the Melbourne hairpin attacking for the lead. He out-braked himself, which allowed Stoner to get a run and attack into the final corner. The battle for second allowed Graves to re-break the tow and consistent driving took him to the chequered flag.

Race 2:

Graves made a great start and instantly took the lead as Sam Strong and Will Davison fought it out for 2nd place. Graves soon broke away. Clean lap after clean lap without any mistakes saw him to take a convincing win, crossing the line with a gap of 3.935 seconds.

After the podium Graves said “The team have worked really hard and have given me a car that’s handled better than it has all season I’m really glad I could turn all their hard work into wins. I have a lot of pressure moving on to Rockingham at the end of the month, at the moment it’s still a 4 way Battle and I need to focus on what’s needed to win the championship and try and not let the pressure get the better of me”

These results mean Graves has an 8-point lead in the championship as they head into the final round at Rockingham, on the 30th of September. Lucas Oil will be with him all the way.
